A Block Paved Driveway Designed Around Your Home
Replacing an old driveway gives you a chance to make better use of the space.
You might need room for another car, easier access to the garage or a clear path to your front door. We’ll help you plan a layout that works for you and suits your home. Our block paving installers in Solihull check the existing surface, levels and drainage, as well as the space you need for parking. We’ll talk you through the design choices and explain what’s involved in the work.
A Finish That Suits Your Property
Choose blocks and borders that complement your brickwork and garden. A contrasting border can make the driveway stand out, while similar colours give a more understated finish.
Practical Parking and Access
It’s worth thinking about more than how many cars will fit. You also need room to open doors, manoeuvre and walk comfortably to the house.
Individual Blocks Can Be Replaced
Individual blocks can often be lifted and replaced if they become damaged or access is needed underneath. If an area has sunk or moved, the cause needs to be put right before the blocks are laid again.

Getting Driveway Drainage Right
Rainwater needs somewhere to go. We look at the driveway’s slope and drainage together to help prevent water collecting in low spots or running towards your home. Gaps between paving blocks don’t necessarily mean rainwater can drain through.
Permeable block paving allows rainwater to drain through the surface. It needs the right materials between and beneath the blocks to work properly.
We’ll explain the drainage options during your design visit, help you choose a solution that suits your property and include the agreed work in your quote.

Block Paved Patios and Garden Paths
A block paved path can link your driveway to the front door, side entrance or garden.
Matching borders or complementary colours help tie the different areas together. We also install block paved patios, with room for seating and easy access to the rest of the garden. If you’re planning a driveway, patio and paths, we can look at the whole project during the same visit.
Block Paving Patterns, Colours & Edging
The shape of your driveway and how you use it both matter when choosing a design. We’ll help you choose blocks, a laying pattern and borders that work together.
Choosing a Laying Pattern
Herringbone is a popular driveway pattern because the blocks interlock well under vehicle use.
Stretcher bond and basketweave offer a different look and can suit paths, patios or particular paving systems. We’ll explain which patterns work with your chosen blocks and where you plan to use them.
Colours and Textures
Charcoal and grey blocks can give a modern look, while brindle and warmer colours often work well with traditional brickwork.
Textured and aged finishes offer another option. Photos are useful for ideas, but it helps to see samples alongside your home before choosing a colour.
Borders and Edge Restraints
A contrasting border can frame your driveway or mark out a path to the front door. The edges also need firm support to help stop the blocks spreading as vehicles move over them.
It’s a detail that matters to both the appearance and the strength of the driveway.
How We Install Your Block Paved Driveway
A good driveway starts below the surface. A properly prepared base supports the blocks, firm edges help keep them in place, and drainage needs to be planned from the start.
1. Survey & Design
We visit your property, talk about what you need and check the existing driveway. We look at access, levels and drainage, including how the new paving will meet your garage, paths and the house.
2. Excavation and Foundations
We remove the existing surface where needed and prepare the ground for the sub-base that supports the paving. The depth and type of base depend on the ground and how the driveway will be used. We compact it carefully to give the blocks a firm foundation.
3. Edging, Drainage and Block Laying
We put the edging and planned drainage in place, then prepare the bedding layer and lay your chosen blocks. We follow the agreed pattern and take care with levels and cuts around borders, entrances and other features.
4. Finishing and Handover
We finish the joints and compact the paving using the method recommended for your chosen system. Before handover, we’ll explain when you can park on the driveway and how to look after it.
What Our Customers Say
Block Paving Questions
The price depends on the size of your driveway, the blocks you choose and the preparation needed. Drainage, borders and steps can also affect the cost. We’ll visit your property, assess the work and give you a written quote.
It depends on the size of the driveway and how much preparation is needed. Access, ground conditions and weather can also affect the job. Before work starts, we’ll explain how long we expect it to take and when you’ll be able to use the driveway.
Often, yes. Damaged blocks can usually be lifted and replaced without replacing the whole driveway. Getting an exact colour match can be harder with older paving. If the blocks have moved or sunk, the base underneath also needs checking.
Yes. Seeds can settle in dirt and debris between the blocks. Regular sweeping, suitable cleaning and keeping the joints in good condition help keep the driveway looking tidy. Block paving needs some ongoing care; it isn’t maintenance-free.
Not always. Some paving products don’t need sealing, so it’s best to follow the manufacturer’s advice. The wrong sealant can alter the finish or affect how a permeable driveway drains. Cleaning and joint care should also suit the blocks you have.
Yes. We can plan your driveway, patio and paths together, helping you choose colours and details that work across your property.
